Wordplay: Matthias Buchinger’s Drawings from the Collection of Ricky Jay

Approximately 15 drawings by the 18th-century German artist Matthias Buchinger (1674–1739), who was born without hands or feet, will be presented in Wordplay: Matthias Buchinger’s Drawings from the Collection of Ricky Jay, opening at the Metropolitan Museum on January 8, 2016.

Met Museum Celebrates Christmas and Hanukkah at Main Building and Cloisters

The Metropolitan Museum of Art will celebrate the winter holidays with its annual presentation of the Christmas tree and Neapolitan Baroque crèche, the display of a spectacular late 19th-century silver Menorah and 18th-century Torah crown, and a variety of holiday-themed events at its Fifth Avenue building, located at 82nd Street and Fifth Avenue.


Christie’s concluded its marquee week of major auctions devoted to Impressionist, Modern, Post-War and Contemporary Art on Friday with $1.1 billion in total sales, and overall sell-through rates of 80% by lot and 87% by value. A companion online-only sale of Picasso Ceramics continues through Tuesday, November 17.

Costume Institute’s Spring 2016 Exhibition at Metropolitan Museum to Focus on Technology’s Impact on Fashion

The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that The Costume Institute’s spring 2016 exhibition will be manus x machina: fashion in an age of technology, on view from May 5 through August 14, 2016 (preceded on May 2 by The Costume Institute Benefit).

Fashion and Virtue: Textile Patterns and the Print Revolution, 1520–1620

The exhibition is made possible by the Placido Arango Fund and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
