This fascinating exhibition features recent archaeological discoveries from the submerged ancient Egyptian cities of Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus. Together they illustrate the legend of Osiris, one of the great founding myths of ancient Egypt.
Osiris – Egypt’s Sunken Mysteries presents highlights of the excavations in the western part of the Nile Delta, directed by Franck Goddio and his team from the European Institute for Underwater Archaeology (IEASM) in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities. Some 300 artefacts discovered in these excavations are on display, augmented by around forty splendid pieces on loan from the museums of Cairo and Alexandria — many of which have never been seen outside of Egypt.
A spectacular scenography including underwater photographs and videos recontextualizes these major findings, which shed new light on the late period of pharaonic rule.
