“Ceramics are not futile,” said Gauguin. For Cristiano Raimondi, guest curator, ceramic is a heterogenous and unstable material at the origin of transversal stories.

With a selection of more than 120 pieces by international artists, 'Artifices Instables, Stories of Ceramics' is a journey through inventions and experiments, diversity of shapes and decorations. It leads us through the different stages of production – selection and preparation of the clay, shaping, finishing, decor, cooking and enameling – and reveals how the “recipes” and almost alchemic preparations that vary from one artist to the other.

On both floors of Villa Sauber, works are displayed according to affinity and visual references. Between atelier pieces and the cabinet of curiosities, the exhibition recalls the activity of the "fabrique de Poteries Artistiques de Monaco" (1874 - 1918).

Included in the show are works by George Ohr, Eugène Baudin, Albert Diato, Pablo Picasso, Chiara Camoni, Simone Fattal, Magdalena Suarez Frimkess, Ron Nagle, Brian Rochefort, Aaron Angell and Johan Creten.

Catalogue co-published by NMNM and Mousse Publishing with texts by Cecilia Canziani, Valérie Da Costa, Chus Martinez, Cristiano Raimondi and Agnès Roux.
