Spring is coming! Wander the gardens to find early bloomers, and celebrate Orchid Month, in honor of Marjorie Post's favorite flower. With displays on view and a variety of exciting virtual programs this month, Hillwood has something for everyone, both in person and from home.

Reopening

Hillwood is excited to announce our safe reopening today! We are now welcoming back the broader community to the museum and gardens with temporary visitation guidelines in place. Advanced reservations are required and are now available

Merriweather To Go and the museum shop are also open. Stop by for the perfect complement to your Hillwood visit!

Virtual Mansion Tour
Friday, March 5, 12, 19, and 26, 2021, 12-1 p.m.

Join a trained volunteer docent to learn about Marjorie Post, her rich collections, and how they are experienced today very much as they were in Post’s time. View photos, collection highlights, and archival images, while asking questions in real time.

  

Livestream Lecture | Black Skin in the Red Land: African American Experiences in Stalin's Soviet Union
Wednesday, March 10, 2021, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Historian Kimberly St. Julian-Varnon will tell stories of Black workers and artists in the Soviet Union who sought a better life without the specter of racial terror, discussing why the African American presence in the Soviet Union at this juncture was a critical development in history.

Marjorie Merriweather Post had a lifelong love affair with orchids, her favorite flower, investing significant resources into fueling this passion. Today, Hillwood's collection contains over 2,000 orchids of approximately 1,200 different species, hybrids, and clones. 

As one of the only public gardens in Washington, D.C. that offers daily access to a working greenhouse filled with orchids, our month-long focus on these exotic beauties features workshops, tours, and colorful displays.
