In recent years, the large-scale installations of Ryōji Ikeda (b.1966) have caused sensations at the Centre Pompidou (Paris), at the Eye Filmmuseum (Amsterdam) or at the Minsheng Art Museum (Shanghai). This site-specific exhibition will present for the first time together two new of his monumental projections: data-verse 1 (currently on view at the Venice Biennale) and data-verse 2.

Ikeda's light and sound installations draw their origins from mathematics, physics and biology, as well as from musicology and philosophy. His works reflect the progressive digitalization of contemporary societies, and allow viewers to immerse themselves in digital universes, oscillating between the smallest measurable units, i.e. bits and bytes, and cosmic dimensions, producing the impression of a journey through space.

Visitors to the exhibition will be invited to move around Wolfsburg Kunstmuseum's monumental space in order to reevaluate their own perception of as well as sound out the relationship between space and time. The pulsating sounds underlying the installations range in their spectrum from barely audible sine tones to dull, physically perceptible bass sounds. The latest 4K projection technology will contribute to transforming the exhibition into a fascinating, total synesthetic experience.
