With the exhibition project Now! Painting in Germany Today, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the Museum Wiesbaden, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz – Museum Gunzenhauser and the Deichtorhallen Hamburg are willing to present the next generation of prominent important painters in Germany.

Even before the dawn of Romanticism in the 1800s, painting has been seen as the foremost art form in Germany. Today, Germany continues to be a driving force in this discipline with internationally renowned artists such as Gerhard Richter, Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, and Albert Oehlen. First of its kind since the German reunification, this joint collaboration will present about 500 works by 53 artists in their 40s.

The Kunstmuseum Bonn, the Museum Wiesbaden, and the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz – Museum Gunzenhauser simultaneously are presenting three or more works by each artist until 19 January 2020. A comprehensive selection will be on display at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg from 14 February to 17 May 2020. The show will be accompanied by a substantial catalogue (Hirmer Verlag) that includes introductory essays, short texts on each artist and a list of selected works.
