On November 9 2015 the Conference Hall of the Tretyakov Gallery Engineering Building hosted a reception "The Artist Sorcerer", dedicated to the outstanding Russian artist Ivan Pokhitonov (1850-1923).

Allegra Markevitch Chapuis, Pokhitonov's great-granddaughter who lives in Switzerland, has made a generous donation to the Tretyakov Gallery of a number of previously unknown documents from the family archive.

These documents bring to light the complex story of the artist's life and reveal some new pages in his biography, which include the occasionally fantastic connections in the lives of Pokhitonov and his descendants and the lives of some renowned cultural figures, both Russian and foreign.

On their visit to Moscow Ivan Pokhitonov's great-granddaughters Allegra Markevitch Chapuis, accompanied by her husband, and Nathalie Frieden Markevitch attended a concert in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, where their father Igor Markevitch, an outstanding musician and composer, conducted performances in 1960 and 1963.

Pokhitonov's favourite music was performed at the reception, just as it was at his own home long ago; "Ivan Pokhitonov: Life and Art", a video film prepared by the GRANY Foundation, brought back events from the master's life and the lives of his descendants.

This event was made possible through the support of the GRANY Foundation and Mr. Otar Margania.
