A RESEARCH PROJECT ON THE POSTWAR CHICAGO ART SCENE

As part of its ongoing program to offer reinterpretations of seminal moments in contemporary art history, the Milan venue of Fondazione Prada presents this research and information project on the fascinating art scene that developed in Chicago in the aftermath of World War II.

The project focuses on the use of a painting style characterized by political commitment, figurative narratives and radical graphics - an approach rejected at that time by mainstream New York School, but which anticipated the new tendencies of the 80's and 90's, from Graffiti to Street Art, from wild cartoons to urban murals.

The Milan venue of the Fondazione Prada hosts a project by the Austrian collective Gelitin in the third instalment of "Slight Agitation", a four-part series of newly commissioned, site-specific works presented in the Cisterna.

Following Tobias Putrih's installation which engaged with ideas of play, politics and emancipation and Pamela Rosenkranz's intervention that offered visitors a multi-sensory immersion into a new perception of embodiment and collectivity, Gelitin's project titled POKALYPSEA-APOKALYPSE-OKALYPSEAP includes three large sculptures that explicitly address classical architectural archetypes (the triumphal arch, the obelisk and the amphitheater), subverting their rhetoric and monumental components.

THE EY EXHIBITION: IMPRESSIONISTS IN LONDON
FRENCH ARTISTS IN EXILE (1870-1904)

UNTIL 29 APRIL 2018
TATE BRITAIN | LONDON, UK

THE EY EXHIBITION: IMPRESSIONISTS IN LONDON

With a selection of 100 major works by Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, James Tissot and others, this is the first large-scale exhibition to chart the stories of the French artists who sought refuge in Britain during the turbulent period beginning with the Franco-Prussian war in 1870.

The conflict sparked a wave of emigration of French artists across the English Channel. This exhibition explores the influence of London and British society on the work of these artists across a broad range of innovative themes, including the role of this microcosm of exiles in fostering encounters and support, the impact of French artists on artistic education in Britain, and the prevalence in their paintings of subjects related to the British capital.
